The Republic of Mauritius
The Movement ATD Fourth World has been operating in the Republic of Mauritius since 1990.
The Movement has the following major objectives:
- 1. Create greater awareness and share the knowledge and experience of the founder of ATD Fourth World, Father Joseph Wresinski, in addition to the knowledge and experience of those living in extreme poverty.
- 2. Work alongside families living in extreme poverty, supporting them to recognise and access their fundamental rights, so that in the long-term, they are able to stand up and have their voices heard and their rights respected.
- 3. Build friendships and solidarity amongst children via the Tapori (worldwide network of children from all backgrounds) groups, and through the organisation of cultural and artistic activities for the individual geographical areas.
- 4. Support the links with ONGs (NGO - Non-Governmental Organisations) who work alongside families living in extreme poverty; the cooperation and ideas offered by these families can be used as a springboard in order to move forwards together and to achieve social unity. The celebration of the 17th October (International Day for the Eradication of Poverty) marks a perfect occasion for this union.
- 5. Ensure financial support for the Movement by engaging in multiple fundraising activities, such as the “Flag Day”.
