International Action

The International Movement ATD Fourth World strives for the voice of the poorest citizens to be heard at the heart of international institutions, in order that the viewpoint and aspirations of those living in extreme poverty be taken on board.
The International Movement ATD Fourth World has general consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), UNICEF, UNESCO and the ILO. This gives greater weight to its work in the human rights field and other essential issues in the fight against extreme poverty.
It also has participative status at the Council of Europe and maintains a permanent delegation to the European Union.

Following the international donors conference for Haiti, Diana Skelton, Deputy Director General of the International Movement ATD Fourth World, expresses concern that by building on fear rather than on aspirations it will be difficult to take into account what people living in extreme poverty have to contribute to their country’s reconstruction. The same question applies to the Millennium Development Goals adopted in 2000 for a 15-year program.
