Poverty and family

Family life represents a vital reality for all people living in extreme poverty, whether they can effectively live as a family or not. In order to live and not merely survive, very poor families state three essential requests:

  • they want to have a future for their children;
  • they ask to be able to live in dignity and independently;
  • they want to be able to live harmoniously with those around them.
Human Rights Extreme poverty is a violation of Human Rights. Fighting poverty means fighting for Human Rights, which are indivisible.
Policy forums and participation Being willing to consider all citizens, without exception, is a key to the fight against extreme poverty. The conditions which enable people living in poverty to express themselves must be created, so that their experience and thought can be known in society.
The right to live on earth On all continents, people and communities affected by extreme poverty fight every day to be able to live amongst other people, despite being constantly chased away.
Other partnerships This section includes initiatives developed in partnership with ATD Fourth World.

Wherever men and women are condemned to live in extreme poverty, human rights are violated.
To come together to ensure that these rights be respected is our solemn duty.
